Being first with alli

alli starter pack You may be hearing from a select group of people who started using alli in April. We're calling them the alliFirst Team. They are 400 overweight adults - men and women - whom we recruited as eager volunteers to try the alli program.

Hundreds of clinical studies have been done on Orlistat, the active ingredient in alli - but we wanted to get some early feedback based on "the real world."  You may have seen comments about alli on other sites.  alliFirst members have set up their own online communities (on SparkPeople, for example) to share ideas and help each other.

The alliFirst members have received many of the same educational tools that will be available this coming Friday when alli hits store shelves.  They've also received a six months supply of alli to compensate them for their advice - but their opinions are their own.

Read on for the invitation letter we sent to the alliFirst Team to come check out this blog.

Letter sent to alliFirst Team members

Dear alli First Team:

We would like to invite you to be among the first to visit our blog at alliConnect.com.  The alliConnect blog is a place to talk about weight loss with the alli brand team.  You are welcome to leave a comment, but you don't have to.

You should keep in mind that if your comment is published, it will appear on a public web page and will be seen by others.  So you should be careful about revealing too much personal information.

However, we would like you to identify yourself as someone who is part of the alli First Team - a special group of consumers who are already using the alli weight control capsules and program.  And as always:

- express only your own opinion

- share only your own experiences; do not write about others on the team

- comment on what you know from personal experience; do not speculate or fabricate

- disclose that you have received product at no cost but that you are otherwise not compensated by GSK, the makers of alli

- be respectful and thoughtful; your comments will be read by many

We continue to value your insights, opinions, suggestions and appreciate your dedication to the alliFirst team.

Sincerely,

Comments:

My experience as an alli first team member has been great.  The accountibility of the group and the uplifting comments of the other members and facilitators of the list have been tremendous. The suggestions that we swap back and forth have made my weight loss journey more successful.  I feel I can recover from setbacks better.  If I cheated on my diet before, I'd throw in the towel, the alli site has helped me stay the course.  I am eatting better and lower fat meals.  I am making more educated decisions about what I eat.  I am checking labels more frequently.  I am drinking more water.  Oh, and did I mention...I'm losing weight! and I'm losing it by making changes that I can live with.  Alli did not just give me a pill, it gave me a behavior modification program.

Hello, I am a member of the Alli First team. I just wanted to share a little of my experience with Alli.  During the two months I have been taking Alli I have experienced none of the treatment effects that the press likes to latch onto when discussing Alli. However, that being said I did have to change my lifestyle a bit before I began using Alli and this may be the reason for the lack of treatment effects. If you keep your fat content to 15 grams or less per meal your less likely to experience any side effects.  Anyone who is considering taking Alli should realize it is not a magic bullet. I have been tracking my weightloss on ediets.com since June 2006 and was loosing 2.5 lbs a month on average.  Since starting Alli I have been loosing 3.5 lbs per month.  Alli, for me has been a tool to assist me during those times when I ordinarly might have given up my weight loss attempt such as holidays and tough weeks at work.  To take Alli I had to make a personal commitment to permanent lifestyle changes long before taking the first pill. I decided this time the changes I have made in diet, exercise, and my body are for life.  Alli "the Pill" will do nothing for you if you don't have your own plan in place or commit to follow the "Alli Plan" or another nutrition plan.  I have been very satisfied with my time on the Alli First team and my results from both Alli "the pill" and "the plan".  If your considering it for yourself, become knowledgeable in what it can and cannot do for you and be sure your ready to make the permanent changes needed to make Alli work for you.

I am a member of Alli First Team and I love the program and the product.  I have tried desperately for a long time to lose weight by exercising like crazy (even fractured my foot by running too much) but could not drop a pound.  Then i kept cutting down my calories to what I realize was not healthy and yet again no weight loss because i would get so hungry I'd cheat.  I was convinced that something was wrong with me and then I tried the Alli program and of course Alli.  I'm down 9 pounds now which may not seem like a ton of wight but to me, it's the first positive thing that has happened to me in my weight loss attempts.  The wonderful thing is that I don't starve myself anymore.  The program's calories and fat grams satisfy me.  The exercise recommended is healthy, nothing that will harm my body.  I feel wonderful and positive.  I will stick to the eating program for a lifetime and will use Alli until my weight goals are met.  (At least 40 lbs to go)  I have experienced and occasiona "treatment effect" and I can tell you exactly what caused it.  (I couldn't get away with splitting a combination plate with my husband at a favorite Mexican restaurant)  But, that said, I wasn't miserable or sick through it, just "cleansed".  I definitely would recommend the Alli program as part of a lifestyle change and not a magic pill.  Alli works to the degree that the effort is made by sticking to the recommended calorie and fat limit and exercising.  I am definitely hooked on the first program that has worked for me!

As a member of the Alli First team, I just wanted to comment on what a fabulous tremendous experience this has been.  My entire way of thinking has changed, and it is amazing how quickly the "changes" become habit! I will not put anything in my shopping cart, much less my mouth, without first reading the nutritional information!  I don't even think about it anymore.  Alli and the support I have received from the community have been incredibly spectacular! I also have not had a single treatment effect, although I am very careful not to go over the 15 gram limit!  I just want people to know there is not magic in Alli, but there is hope.

Hi! I am also a Alli first team member. During the past 2 months, I have been able to change my lifestyle with the help of Alli and to lose a total of 30 pounds to date. Being a member of the team, we have learned to eat healthier, without depraving ourselves. We have learned that exercise is NOT a dirty word. All of the members are so supportive and understand the difficulties of losing weight. Using Alli I know has helped me to be successful and lose 30 lbs. so far and hopefully more to come. I have only had the treatment effects once and that was totally my fault! Having family cookouts for graduation can be a hard situation. But overall, Alli is wonderful and has worked great for me!

I am an alliFirst Team member.  When I first heard about alli being FDA approved in January 2006, I was intrigued and wondered if this pill would be helpful to me in my weight loss quest.  I did frequent searches through the year to see when it would be available.  When the myalli.com website became available I signed up for update emails and then was invited to take a survey which qualified me to be a member for alliFirst Team.  I really had no idea what to expect, but GSK has provided everything we need to succeed.  They provide educational materials, wonderful online support and quick answers to our questions.  I found out that the alliFirst Team were people just like me who have taken steps forward, fell back and are moving forward again... this time with the help of alli.  I have liked the fact that the community is a guilt-free zone with a lot of sharing and support.

Since partnering with alli, I have lost 16 lbs.  I experienced some treatment effects in the beginning, but only when I wasn't informed about foods I was eating.  The most important thing I have learned is to check out nutritional information before heading to a restaurant.  It will really open your eyes to things you are eating that may not be that healthy.  To me, getting rid of a little extra fat (25%) while following a healthy eating and exercise plan is a great bonus.  Additionally, alli targets stored fat so that is also a great motivator for me!

If alli sounds like something you'd like to try, get your Starter Pack and read it thoroughly before starting the program.  Follow the guidelines and I wish you success!!  I have been very satisfied with my alli experience.

I, too, am an alliFirst team member...I was SO excited when I received the email that I had been chosen.  I have struggled with my weight for about 15-16 years at this point.  I've lost and gained, over and over.  I've stuck with the alli plan now for approximately 8 weeks and lost about 12 pounds - that may not sound like much but that is a little over 17% of my goal!  I even went on vacation for 5 days this last week - eating ALL of my meals out!  I continued taking my alli and stayed on the plan.  I did not have ANY treatment effects (TE's) while doing this; so you see, it can be done - even on vacation!  And if I can do this on vacation, then it is definitely something you can do every day of your life. That is what I love about the alli plan - it is something I can LIVE with...it is a "life plan."

If you're interested in making a change for life, then I suggest paying attention to what those of us who have actually taken it say about it - not necessarily the news reporters who probably don't understand the difficulty of losing weight (and the fear and the feeling of impossibility).  My one word of warning: make sure you follow the alli plan before starting to take the alli pill...you don't want to start off with TE's.  Good luck!

I, too, was lucky enough to be chosen as an Alli First Team member!  I have struggled with my weight pretty much for the last 15 years since I've been out of high school.  I lost about 11 lbs by just eating better and excercising in about 3-4 months before starting Alli.  I've lost an additional 21 lbs since taking Alli, by portion control, eating healthier, excercising, and taking Alli!  There can be "Treatment Effects" that can send you to the toilet if you go above the 15 grams of fat per meal that's recommended you stay under.  Many of my peers from the Alli First Team and I have agreed that taking Alli keeps us very "faithful" to the program so as to avoid these Treatment Effects.  I can't say enough good things about Alli.  I feel so honored to be chosen as part of this group.  Many of us have lost so much weight as a result of taking Alli and following the steps of the program.  I hope the general public has the same positive results!!!

I'm glad someone has addressed the staying faithful to the program to avoid the treatment effects.  I love food:  Healthy and Unhealthy.  I'm really hoping that Alli will motivate me to skip the cream sauces and french fries.  My big concern is possibly blocking vitamins and minerals.

I don't know if I should move all of my vitamins to night instead of first thing in the morning  And, does anyone know, if I want to eat a high fat meal, can I skip Alli that day and have a steak that night?

i started alli on june 18 and have lost 26 pounds - i do not follow the alli meal plan but have created my own meals using lots of healthy ingredients (even desserts) - i have back problems but try to swim alot and stay active - i am 56 years old with two grandchildren and after almost a lifelong battle with my weight feel that i have unlocked some sort of magic door - i have tried it all - i feel this WILL be a lifestyle change for me beyond a doubt!! thanks alli
